Well, it has been a while since I posted but we have just been waiting and waiting for documents in the mail and finally our Police Clearance Reports arrived from the UK as did our Marriage Certificate that Mum and Dad had legalised at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. My renewed US passport also arrived this week.
We had our first two Home Study meetings here at home with our Social Worker this weekend. They both went really well despite a disaster occuring beforehand. The day before our first visit we arrived home from a weeks' vacation to find that our upstairs toilet had overflowed and subsequently flooded our entire bathroom and downstairs living room. Our carpets are trashed as is the ceiling and various other things. It was a complete nightmare to walk in on after a lovely relaxing holiday! Not to mention not quite the impression we wanted to make when the Social Worker came to inspect our home!
Needless to say, we cleaned up and made the best of it and all went well. Jack ,Liam and Sam did a great job giving a guided tour of our home and answering all of the questions they were asked. We were very proud of them!
Now we have to go to Seattle for two more visits with the Social Worker and then she can write up a report using our references, interviews, biographies and all that fun stuff. The report is a legal document and will go to our adoption agency and also to Immigration so we can file our petition to adopt an orphan (I-600A). We will get a fingerprinting appointment from the FBI in the next month and then we wait for the last document...the cherished I-171-H which is a document that we take to China that allows us to bring an orphan in to the States as a U.S. citizen.
Still hoping to send our Dossier to China in September/October...
