10 weeks ago today....

10 weeks ago today a precious little girl who had never known a mommy, never known a daddy and never known 3 adoring brothers was handed to us in a room in the Civil Affairs Office, Zhengzhou, in north central China. We were thrilled beyond belief.
She was bewildered, exhausted, dirty, covered in bug-bites and fighting a bad cold. But most of all she was grieving hard for her foster family. We knew it would take her some time and major adjusting. What a difference time, and the love of a family make. The last 10 weeks have been absolutely wonderful and beyond our expectations. Ruby is thriving, affectionate (with us only: a good sign!) happy, sweet-natured and healthy as can be. We are amazed daily at our miracle and can't believe how lucky we all are. No longer shunning Daddy and scared of our mellow dog, she embraces both! She is signing her needs/wants to us and has learned the words, Momma, Dadda, Ja (Jack), Sa (Sam), still working on Liam-that's a hard one! Kiss, hug, Ko (Koda) and ball (what a shocker in this house!), shoes, foot, no (but she rarely says this one so far--phew! She still says thank you, brother and dog in Mandarin (any other words, I wouldn't understand them!).
She's an easy toddler who loves to be around us all, is totally flexible (good thing with all those soccer practices/games!) and just adores dancing to music whenever she can. We have fallen totally in love with Ruby and we look forward to watching her blossom even more as time goes by. Adoption is truly an amazing, miraculous journey!

That is so amazing!! I don't know if Nate told your hubby but we are hopefully going to be adopting from Haiti. We are waiting patiently for the adoption to open up again and we will be submitting our paperwork!!! Maybe I will get my little girl too :)

Boy, what a difference even just 10 weeks makes! And most certainly the love of a FAMILY! You can see the light in Ruby's eyes :)

I am so happy for you! So happy that Miss Ruby is adjusting so well - her language is exploding! Isn't it the sweetest most amazing thing???? So awesome to watch the transformation.

It seems so much faster than watching our babies change little by little. These girls are true survivors and have made such drastic transformations.

We can't wait to see you & to meet Ruby! Maybe we will be in town when Maggie is too :)

Hugs,
Sara

Hi! My name is Spenser and I volunteered at New Day in March of 2009. Most of my time spent at the foster home was spent keeping Ruby (then named Bess) entertained. We would sit in the playroom for hours on end just pulling toys off the shelf and leaving a huge mess. I very vividly remember all of her adorable facial expression that always let me know what she was thinking. My favorite thing was when she started mimicking my funny face. It was so precious and absolutely hilarious. I was hopelessly in love with her after just a few minutes and now looking at your beautiful pictures of her, I am so happy that she found such an adoring and loving family. I miss her so much and I wish you and your family all the best. You certainly have one very special little girl in your family.
